COVID, Dr Fauci, and Jesus

Who are the voices we listen to? Who are the voices we speak so highly of to others?
I find it discouraging that some of us in the Christian community post demeaning things about Dr. Anthony Fauci – Director of the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases. I am not referring to a well thought out criticism delivered in a respectful way. I am referring to posts that mock Dr. Fauci, accusations of a conspiracy, etc. – even from Christian leaders.
How did we come to this place of treating Dr. Fauci this way? Are we aware of the fact that he has death threats against him? What message are we communicating to people who are not followers of the Lord Jesus when Christians post derogatory communications about Dr. Fauci?
Dr. Fauci is well respected within the community of his peers: infectious disease specialists; epidemiologists; etc. CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield, a conservative Christian, has great respect for Dr. Fauci. Even if Dr. Fauci was not so well respected, why are we as followers of the Lord Jesus joining in this belittling of Dr. Fauci? The Lord Jesus said to love our enemies so, even if you think Dr. Fauci is your enemy, disrespectful comments clearly go against the counsel of the Lord.
I am referring to Dr. Fauci here as an example of a bigger problem that concerns me. It is part of a trend that I have seen going on for years now.
Who are the voices we listen to? Who are the voices we speak so highly of to others?
As I review these negative posts, most of which are forwarding another person’s post, I see many of us in the Christian community following politicians, news anchors, talk show hosts, conspiracy theorists, and Christian leaders who consistently speak against Dr. Fauci in insulting ways. Again, I am not talking about a well thought out criticism delivered in a respectful way. I am referring to a flurry of derogatory communications about Dr. Fauci.
Isn’t it our job as the Lord’s people to walk in love and respect? Can we communicate passionately about how we feel but in an intelligent and respectful way?
I think the Lord is looking to see the Christian community detach from these voices of accusation, judgement, mockery, and hatred. I feel more than ever that we need to get back to the Lord Jesus, our first love, and prioritize following the voice of the Lord.
I want to encourage all of us to ask the Lord for guidance on which voices are providing healthy information and which voices are not. Please consider taking a break from the media and read one, or all, of the gospels – Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. It is always healthy to get back to focusing on the Lord Jesus and His voice
Colossians 3:12 “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”
Colossians 4:6 “Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.”
Ephesians 1:17 “I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.“
May God’s wisdom and grace be with us all.
With love,
Tim
