The Emmanuel Series  Luke Chapter 4

It is fascinating to see the interaction of the Lord Jesus with people in the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

The Lord Jesus is called Emmanuel which means God with us. What kind of interactions do we see when God walks on the earth?

One reoccurring interaction that stands out is the conflicted relationship between the Lord Jesus and some of the leaders of God‘s people back in that day. These leaders would be the equivalent of today’s Christian leaders such as pastors, theologians, etc.

I’m going through the book of Luke so I’d like to share some verses as I go along relating to the Lord’s interactions with people.

We will start in Luke chapter 4 as this is when the ministry of the Lord Jesus begins.

Luke 4:24-30 24

Then He added, “Truly I tell you, no prophet is accepted in his hometown. 25But I tell you truthfully that there were many widows in Israel in the time of Elijah, when the sky was shut for three and a half years and great famine swept over all the land. 26Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to the widow of Zarephath in Sidon. 27And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet. Yet not one of them was cleansed—only Naaman the Syrian.” 28On hearing this, all the people in the synagogue were enraged. 29They got up, drove Him out of the town, and led Him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw Him over the cliff. 30But Jesus passed through the crowd and went on His way.

The people were upset because the Lord Jesus gave them two examples of God having more compassion on foreigners and unbelievers than on God’s people.

As the saying goes, God offends the mind to reveal the heart.

May God’s wisdom and truth guide us more than ever.

With love.
